About Senior Safety Checks
Built by one person who thinks a daily “I'm OK” shouldn't require an app, a gadget, or a $40-a-month contract.
Hi — I'm Brock Bigalke. Senior Safety Checks is my company (Big Solutions LLC, Minnesota), and I'm the person who designed it, built it, and answers the support email.
It exists because of a problem almost every adult child of an aging parent knows: the quiet worry that builds through the day when you haven't heard from them. You can't call every morning — work, kids, time zones, life — and your parent doesn't want to be checked up on like a patient. Most of the products aimed at this problem ask the senior to change: wear a pendant, charge a device, learn an app. Most seniors won't, and the worry stays.
So this service asks almost nothing of them. One friendly text a day, at a time the family picks. They reply — a word, a sentence, an emoji — and everyone relaxes. If they don't reply, it doesn't shrug: it reminds them, then calls them, then tells the family. That's the whole product, on purpose.
The principles it's built on
- Meet seniors where they are. Any phone that can receive a text works — flip phones included. Nothing to install, charge, or wear.
- Consent, always. Check-ins start only after your parent replies YES, and one STOP text turns everything off. Dignity is a feature.
- Silence is loud. A missed check-in always reaches the family — by email and text, not buried in a dashboard you have to remember to open.
- Honesty about what this is. Senior Safety Checks is a daily wellness check, not a medical alert or emergency-dispatch service — and every page, including this one, says so. If someone may be in danger, call 911. If your parent has serious fall risk, get a real medical alert device; this can run alongside it.
